American Red Cross urges families to prepare for emergencies

It’s National Preparedness Month, and the American Red Cross is urging families to be prepared for emergencies.

Disasters can happen any time, and they want you and your family to be prepared by making a plan to stay safe, gather important supplies and know how to stay connected.

They say to think about where you would go if you had to leave your home, and know what mode of transportation you’d use if needed.

Be sure to have critical supplies somewhere that you can grab and go, and be sure to include at least three days of supplies that you would need.

Be sure to have a plan to reconnect with loved ones if you are separated, and keep important phone numbers on a contact card.

The Red Cross Emergency app provides resources for different emergencies as well as weather alerts to help keep you better prepared.
