In honor of Baby Safety Month, the Berrien County Health Department is sharing tips and resources for parents.

This month, the Health Department is highlighting the role parents and caregivers play in preventing injuries.

They’re offering tips for safe sleep, including placing babies on their backs to sleep, using a firm mattress, keeping cribs clear of extra items and giving babies their own space to sleep.

They’re also emphasizing the importance of child passenger safety, stating that children should remain rear-facing until they are at least two years old and reach the maximum weight and height allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer.

Those age 13 and younger should ride in the rear seat of the vehicle, and those 8 years old and younger should be sitting in a booster seat until they reach the height maximum.
