A Vandalia man was killed in a crash on U.S. 12 in Cass County.

The collision happened around 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at US 12 and M-217 in Porter Township when James Hettmansperger, 42, was traveling eastbound and lost control of the vehicle, crossing the centerline. The Jeep then struck the back of a GMC Sierra pickup and trailer driven by a 44-year-old Elkhart man.  The Jeep collided with the front of the trailer and left the roadway, coming to rest alongside a power pole.

EMS and Fire attempted life-saving measures but Hettmansperger was pronounced dead at the scene.
