Nappanee St. pedestrian bridge to be demolished

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

The pedestrian bridge over Nappanee Street in Elkhart will be demolished next summer after being deemed unsafe.

The city, state and Elkhart Community Schools remain divided on a replacement, as more than 300 students use the bridge daily.

INDOT says repair isn’t possible and at-grade options are under review, unless new bridge funding emerges.
