The Commemorative Air Force’s Indiana Wing is launching a fundraising campaign to help restore an historic World War II training aircraft known as “Jake.”
The group is seeking to raise $15,000 as part of the national “12 Planes of Christmas” effort to rebuild the engine of its Boeing PT-17 Stearman.
Aircraft like Jake were commonly used at Naval Air Station Bunker Hill—now Grissom Air Reserve Base—to train U.S. Navy and Royal Navy cadets during the war.
