Goshen Common Council members have approved an ordinance on first reading that would allow limited alcohol consumption at certain events in city parks.
The proposal, requested by the Parks and Recreation Department, would permit alcohol only at special events hosted or approved by the department and under strict rules and permits.
City officials stressed the change would not allow open drinking in parks, but could expand event options like festivals or wedding receptions.
The Goshen News reports the ordinance passed 6-0, with a final vote scheduled for Dec. 29.
