The holiday shopping rush is underway, and Indiana State Police are reminding shoppers to put safety first. 

Troopers encourage customers to stay alert and aware of their surroundings, especially in crowded stores and parking lots. Park in well-lit areas, lock your vehicle and place purchases out of sight in the trunk.

Avoid carrying large amounts of cash, and never leave purses unattended in shopping carts.

If possible, shop with a friend and carry a fully charged cell phone.

Parents are urged to talk with children about what to do if they become separated. 

For holiday shoppers skipping the crowds this year, Indiana State Police are sharing tips for safe online shopping and package delivery. 

They say you should always use credit cards or PayPal and confirm websites begin with “https” before entering personal information.

Avoid clicking pop-up links, keep malware protection updates and steer clear of public Wi-Fi. When packages arrive, don’t leave them unattended.

Customize delivery locations, use porch lock boxes or doorbell cameras, and pay close attention to delivery notices.
