New attempted murder charges were filed against the man accused of holding five people hostage during a SWAT standoff in Mishawaka.

Prosecutors charged 53-year-old Chad Bean with six counts of attempted murder, adding to earlier charges that included criminal confinement, illegal gun possession, and stalking.

The case stemmed from a Dec. 21 police response to a home on Conner Drive, where prosecutors said Bean fired at officers multiple times.

Officers returned fire, and the prosecutor’s office said their actions were justified.
