A South Bend Police officer has been arrested following an off-duty incident.
South Bend Police were called around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, to the 1900 block of Trent Way to investigate a reported domestic dispute. Officers at the scene spoke with a female victim, who reported that her husband became physical during an argument.
After learning the suspect was a South Bend Police officer, responding officers requested the St. Joseph County Police Department take over the investigation.
Following that investigation, officers arrested 29-year-old Robert Neufer on a preliminary charge of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child.
Neufer is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail while awaiting a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. He has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal investigation.
Neufer was sworn in as a South Bend Police officer in 2023.
