Gov. Mike Braun positions Indiana as leader in energy security

(provided by his Senate office)
Governor Mike Braun is positioning Indiana as a national leader in energy security with the approval of a new report from the Rare Earth Recovery Council.
The plan focuses on extracting critical minerals—essential for military and medical tech—from Indiana’s vast coal byproducts.
By reclaiming these materials from legacy coal sites, Indiana aims to slash U.S. reliance on China, which currently controls 90% of global processing.
The council’s recommendations include streamlining permits and launching pilot projects to turn Indiana’s “coal legacy” into a domestic supply chain for the future.
