Ancon Construction celebrates award for Ice Box Skating Rink project

Ancon Construction is celebrating a major honor after receiving an award for its Ice Box Skating Rink project in South Bend.

The Ice Box Skating Rink project received the Award of Excellence from the Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Competition.

The Ice Box is a 37-thousand-square-foot facility with an additional 6,800-square-foot renovation, now serving as a premier sports tourism destination.

The rink generates an estimated 27 million dollars annually for the local economy and produces more than 41-thousand hotel room nights during the Notre Dame football offseason.

Originally built as an Oliver Plow factory in 1920, the project blends historic preservation with modern design. Ancon leaders say the award recognizes teamwork, craftsmanship and the project’s lasting community impact.

41,000 hotel room nights during ND football offseason (Dec thru Aug appx) = ~ 152 hotel nights per day. Who knew?
