Medical issue causes three-vehicle crash in Pokagon Township

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-vehicle crash on M-51 near Pennsylvania Street in Pokagon Township.
Investigators say the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7.
According to authorities, a vehicle driven by a  64-year-old Niles man was traveling southwest on M-51 when the driver experienced a medical issue. Deputies say the medical emergency caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike two unoccupied, parked vehicles.
The driver was transported by SMCAS ambulance to Corewell Health Niles Hospital for evaluation. Deputies report he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No other injuries were reported, and the parked vehicles were unoccupied when they were struck.
The crash remains under investigation.
