A 77-year-old Union Mills man has been arrested following a six-week investigation into alleged child sex trafficking offenses, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

Jack G. Kriner was taken into custody Thursday after a warrant was issued in LaPorte County Circuit Court.

The investigation began the evening of Dec. 25, 2025, when Deputy Micah Dokmanovic was dispatched to a home in the 3400 west block of County Road 800 South on a report of a sex offense. Authorities said representatives of an organization had established online contact with Kriner while posing as a 13-year-old juvenile. The representatives were present at Kriner’s residence when law enforcement responded.

Detective Derrick Deck later took over as lead investigator and continued gathering evidence. On Feb. 4, Deck submitted his findings to the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. A judge found probable cause and issued an arrest warrant Feb. 12.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Kriner the following day.

Kriner was booked into the La Porte County Jail on the following charges:

*Promotion of Child Sexual Trafficking, Level 3 felony Child Solicitation, Level 5 felony

*Inappropriate Communication with a Child Using a Computer Network, Class A misdemeanor

He remains held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
