A body discovered in the St. Joseph River over the weekend has been identified as a 69-year-old Niles man.
Police say Michael Whitt, 69, of Niles, was found just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday after two people walking along the pathway on the east side of the river spotted the body in the water.
Officers responded to the east shoreline between the Broadway and Main Street bridges, where they located the body completely submerged just beneath the surface.
The Niles Fire Department River Rescue Team recovered Whitt’s body from the water.
Authorities have not released additional details.
