Special Olympics Indiana’s 2026 Polar Plunge season continues in South Bend on Saturday, Feb. 28, giving residents a chance to jump into icy water to support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Now in its 27th year, the Polar Plunge challenges individuals and teams to raise money before taking the cold-water dip. The event supports more than 20,000 children and adults across Indiana who participate in Special Olympics programs.
Last year alone, more than 3,000 participants raised roughly $1 million statewide.
The South Bend plunge will be held at Four Winds Field. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Source Bank Performance Center, followed by a costume contest and opening ceremony. The main plunge is scheduled for noon, with fundraising awards and a post-event celebration afterward.
Participants must raise at least $125 to take part and will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Higher fundraising totals qualify participants for additional prizes.
The season also includes the “Super Plunger” program. Individuals who raise $4,000 or more earn VIP treatment at the season-ending plunge at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
Organizers say money raised helps provide year-round sports, health, education and leadership programs for Special Olympics Indiana athletes at no cost. Since the event began, the Polar Plunge has generated more than $13 million statewide.
