A house fire on Dogwood Road in Mishawaka Monday evening killed a dog.

Firefighters from Penn Fire and nearby departments arrived just after 5 p.m. to find smoke and flames coming from the front of the home.

Crews first tried to fight the fire from inside but had to pull back because of strong winds and worsening conditions.

The fire was under control by shortly after 7 p.m.

The homeowner confirmed no people were inside, only the dog.
