Elkhart Board of Zoning Appeals faces backlash over controversial mobile home placement

People on East Beardsley Avenue are upset after a homeowner placed a mobile home on their property for a family member.
Only a few residents received notice, and many say the move creates safety hazards.
The Board of Zoning Appeals reportedly acted on the belief that the project would be a small house, not a mobile home.
The placement raises concerns about property values, emergency access, zoning rules, and parking on the snow-route street. A petition opposing the home has gathered more than 100 signatures.
City leaders confirmed that House Bill 1001 does not allow mobile homes in that area.
