A Rochester man has been sentenced in connection to an early morning auto theft.

Robert Penrose and his then-girlfriend, Sara Weldy, were accused of stealing a vehicle from the 7-Eleven on Toledo Road in Elkhart in May of last year. The Goshen News says surveillance video showed a man driving away in the stolen vehicle.

Police later found the car abandoned with heavy front-end damage in the 70000 block of County Road 11 in Nappanee. Investigators say the pair then attempted to enter other vehicles in the area.

Weldy was previously sentenced to two years on alternative placement.

Penrose received two years for possession of meth, with one year suspended, and an additional consecutive suspended sentence for auto theft.
