POET Biorefining sues Wabash County over carbon capture permit ban

A company that runs a biorefinery in North Manchester is suing Wabash County leaders over a moratorium on carbon dioxide storage projects.
POET Biorefining filed the lawsuit after county commissioners approved a temporary ban last year on carbon capture and sequestration. The company says the ban blocks federal and state efforts that support storing carbon dioxide deep underground and could hurt its property interests.
People living near the facility have raised concerns about safety, groundwater contamination, and the risk of leaks.
The county says it is reviewing the lawsuit and plans to defend the moratorium but cannot comment further during the case.
