Controversial mobile home placement prompts Elkhart board decision

The Elkhart Board of Zoning Appeals approved a revised plan for a small home on a lot off East Beardsley Avenue after neighbors pushed back against the original proposal.
The property owner wants a place for her mother to live.
Neighbors expected a small structure, but a mobile home was later placed on the lot, raising concerns about privacy and the type of housing in the neighborhood.
The board reviewed three requests tied to the project.
Members approved two and denied one, forcing changes to the size, placement and type of building allowed on the property.
