Special Prosecutor requested after arrests in Starke County battery and strangulation case

A Special Prosecutor has been requested for the case of two people arrested following an investigation into allegations of battery and strangulation in Starke County.
The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Bureau says it was contacted by the Starke County Sheriff’s Department on June 30, 2025, regarding an incident that allegedly occurred on June 28.
Due to a potential conflict of interest, the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office requested that a special prosecutor be appointed. The case was assigned to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office.
Working in coordination with the special prosecutor, Indiana State Police detectives took two individuals into custody on March 11, 2026.
Authorities say 45-year-old Robert W. Huff and 39-year-old Kari A. Huff were arrested without incident and transported to the Starke County Jail.
Robert Huff faces preliminary charges of strangulation, domestic battery, and neglect of a dependent, all Level 6 felonies.
Kari Huff was booked on preliminary charges of domestic battery and neglect of a dependent, also Level 6 felonies.
Police say the investigation began after the reported incident in late June of 2025.
