Elkhart residents concerned about Senate Enrolled Act 1

People in Elkhart met this week with county and city officials to learn how Senate Enrolled Act 1 could affect local governments and community organizations.

Officials outlined ongoing efforts to address parts of the law they consider unintended, while noting that its financial effects will continue in the coming years.

They explained how lower property taxes could reduce revenue for services such as police, fire, libraries, parks, and other public programs.

People asked how schools, libraries, and other taxing units might be affected.

County officials described how Indiana’s levy system can shift funding pressures from one unit to another, meaning cuts in one department do not always lead to lower tax bills.

Perhaps you can all call Senator Linda Rogers. She has ads up on the radio claiming to have solved all societal problems all on her own. All the while my property taxes will continue to rise despite all the promises. I will have to adjust my monthly budget to account for fewer funds to go around. I suggest all those entities with their hands in my pocket book to do the same.

The “people” being discussed want your taxes to go UP! They are more concerned about the future of their freebies than about the people stuck footing the bill.
