The City of South Bend is launching a Storm Drain Art Contest to raise awareness about stormwater and water quality through public art, with submissions accepted throughout April.
Local artists are encouraged to create designs that show how everyday activities impact waterways. Stormwater runoff collects pollutants from streets and flows untreated into the St. Joseph River through storm drains.
Selected artists will paint murals on Michigan Street between Colfax and Wayne. The artwork aims to remind residents how pollution enters the system and promote simple actions like proper waste disposal.
Winning artists receive 250 dollars, with murals completed ahead of the June 5 First Fridays event.
