Hoosiers warned of eastern tent caterpillar

Indiana landowners should watch for eastern tent caterpillar activity as spring arrives.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the native defoliating insects spin silk tents in the forks of tree branches in late March and early April.
The caterpillars continue feeding and growing through mid to late May, reaching about twice their current size.
Most healthy trees can recover without lasting damage, according to the DNR. However, landowners with tents in their yard trees may want to check twigs for egg masses in June and July.
