Retired South Bend Fire Captain on house arrest facing sex charges

A retired South Bend Fire Department captain is under house arrest after being arrested late last year in Michigan.
Stewart Russell was booked into the Oakland County Jail on December 12, 2025, according to court records. He faces three counts of criminal sexual misconduct, including one involving a victim under the age of 13.
The charges include first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a relationship, as well as two second-degree counts-one involving a minor under 13 and another involving a relationship.
Russell has since been released from custody and placed on house arrest. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for May 5.
