Michigan ranked in top 10 states for animals

A new report from SmileHub has ranked the best states for animals in 2026.

Oregon was ranked the best state for animals in 2026, followed by Colorado and Nebraska.

The study compared all 50 states using factors like animal charities, conservation programs, veterinarians and no-kill shelters. Alabama ranked last, with Maryland and Hawaii also near the bottom.

Michigan came in tenth best overall.
