Customers of Indiana Michigan Power are being warned to watch out for utility scammers posing as company employees.

I&M says it has already received more than 75 scam reports this year, with many involving threats of immediate disconnection unless payment is made.

Company officials say scammers are increasingly showing up at customers’ homes or demanding payment through gift cards, prepaid debit cards or mobile payment apps.

I&M reminds customers that employees do not collect payments in person and will never ask for personal or financial information over the phone or by email.

Customers who suspect a scam are encouraged to hang up and contact I&M directly.
