The Elkhart City Council has approved more than $337,000 for repairs to the Nappanee Street Pedestrian Bridge.

City officials say the repairs are intended to keep the bridge safe and functional while plans move forward for a permanent replacement.

The council’s vote had previously been delayed due to a statewide publication system outage that affected required public notices. Officials say that issue has now been resolved.

The repair work is expected to allow the bridge to reopen to pedestrians before the start of the upcoming school year.
