A 9-year-old Elkhart County girl was recognized for helping save her father’s life during a cardiac emergency earlier this year.

Magnolia Bridegroom received the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver Hero Award after stepping in to perform CPR when her father collapsed at home in January.

Magnolia took over chest compressions after her mother became exhausted and later ran outside in freezing temperatures to guide first responders who had been sent to the wrong address.

Thanks to the quick actions of Magnolia, her mother, emergency crews, and medical staff, her father survived and returned home about a week later.

The award was presented during CPR AED Awareness Week
