Driver arrested after crash near Sherman Street bridge

A 20-year-old driver was arrested early Sunday following a single-vehicle crash near Bower Street and Riverside Drive in Elkhart that left a passenger injured.
Police say the crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. An initial investigation found the driver struck the Sherman Street Bridge, causing the vehicle to crash.
A male passenger suffered a head injury and was taken for medical treatment. Authorities say he is in stable condition.
The driver was booked into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges that include operating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and minor consuming alcohol.
