A man accused of fatally shooting his wife in Elkhart County has been granted a public defender.

41-year-old Aaron Williams is charged with murder in the May 24 death of his wife, Patricia Williams.

Investigators say Williams called 911 several times before officers arrived at a home on County Road 18 and allegedly admitted to shooting his wife.

The Goshen News says a judge had previously ruled Williams did not qualify for a public defender because of his assets.

However, Williams told the court those assets are now frozen due to a lawsuit filed by his wife’s estate on behalf of their children. His jury trial is scheduled for October 5.
