LaPorte man found dead from gunshot wound; investigation underway

Authorities are investigating the death of a La Porte man who was found with a gunshot wound.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday, June 8, to a residence in the 2900 block of West U.S. 20 after receiving a report of a person suffering from a gunshot injury.

When deputies arrived, they located the victim and secured the scene.

The deceased was identified as 64-year-old James D. Williams of La Porte. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division have taken over the investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Chief of Detectives Captain Andy Hynek at the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.
