The Benton Harbor Public Library has officially been renamed to recognize the service of longtime Berrien County Commissioner Mamie L. Yarbrough.

A dedication ceremony was held Tuesday at the East Wall Street facility, which will now be known as the Mamie L. Yarbrough Benton Harbor Public Library.

Community leaders said the name change honors Yarbrough’s years of public service and commitment to residents throughout the area.

Yarbrough said the recognition was especially meaningful because of the important role libraries play in the community.

She noted that libraries provide valuable resources for children, seniors and lifelong learners.
