City leaders, developers and community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Liberty Tower Residences, a new luxury apartment community in downtown South Bend.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of a major redevelopment project by Washington Square Development, transforming the upper floors of the downtown building into upscale residential housing.
The project includes 88 apartments across the building’s top nine floors, offering studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Both furnished and unfurnished units are available. One of the property’s signature features is a penthouse suite created from the former Summit Club dining room, offering expansive views of the city.
Developers said the project reflects growing demand for downtown living, particularly among professionals, University of Notre Dame faculty members and graduate students seeking housing close to work, entertainment and cultural attractions.
South Bend Mayor James Mueller said the investment represents confidence in the city’s future and helps address the need for additional housing options downtown.
“The transformation at Liberty Tower Residences will bring new life and vibrancy to our community,” Mueller said. “This major investment creates needed housing as we continue to grow and demonstrates confidence in our city’s future.”
The redevelopment complements the neighboring Aloft Hotel and an updated parking garage with more than 200 spaces, further expanding residential and commercial opportunities in the downtown area.
