Two people injured in early morning shooting near South Bend

The St. Joseph County Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two people injured early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched around 2:55 a.m. to the 51000 block of Emmons Road near Auten Road on reports of gunfire.

When officers arrived, they located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities said the injuries were not life-threatening, and the victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.

A short time later, investigators learned that a second shooting victim had arrived independently at Memorial Hospital. Police said that individual also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives remained at the scene Sunday morning collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
