Suspect arrested for River Park shooting

A South Bend man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that injured a man in the city’s River Park neighborhood.

South Bend Police were called to the area of Mishawaka Avenue and 29th Street at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Investigators with the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified 47-year-old Alfonso Escobedo Prieto as a suspect in the case.

Prieto was located and arrested on Tuesday, June 23.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Prieto with Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon. He remains held in the St. Joseph County Jail.
