A St. Joseph County jury has found a South Bend man guilty in the 2024 shooting death of a 16-year-old Riley High School student.
On Thursday, Derrick Myles, 21, was convicted of murder in the June 14, 2024, killing of Alyyus Enoexpettiford. Jurors also found Myles guilty of a firearm sentencing enhancement.
Police said officers were called to the 500 block of East Victoria Street shortly before 5:45 p.m. on June 14, 2024, after reports of a shooting. They found Enoexpettiford suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators with the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified Myles as the suspect. Prosecutors later charged him with murder and a firearm enhancement. Authorities initially sought the public’s help in locating Myles before he turned himself in at the South Bend Police Department on Aug. 25, 2024. He was then booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
Myles faces a sentence of 45 to 65 years for the murder conviction. The firearm enhancement carries an additional sentence of five to 20 years.
Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on July 22 before St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Hurley.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office commended the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit for its investigation.
