A Texas woman was arrested after allegedly refusing to pay a toll on the Indiana Toll Road and providing false identifying information to an Indiana State Police trooper.

The incident happened around 10:55 a.m. Tuesday at the Portage Barrier Toll Plaza.

According to Indiana State Police, the driver of a 2026 Volvo semi tractor-trailer initially refused to pay the toll. While attempting to collect information so the toll could be addressed later, the responding trooper warned the driver that providing false identification was a criminal offense.

Police say the driver, identified as 38-year-old Shalaia Martin of Houston, gave false information. When the trooper attempted to arrest her, investigators say she resisted before additional troopers arrived to assist. No injuries were reported.

Troopers also reported finding suspected marijuana and a bottle of synthetic urine inside the truck.

Martin was cited for the unpaid toll and booked into the Porter County Jail on preliminary charges of false informing, resisting law enforcement, possession of synthetic urine and possession of marijuana.
