A major renovation is coming to one of the busiest emergency rooms in the area.

Elkhart General Hospital is investing 37 million dollars to expand and upgrade its emergency department and trauma center.

WSBT says the project includes a more than 4,700-square-foot addition, new equipment, improved ambulance and walk-in access, and additional emergency room bays.

Hospital leaders say the changes will help reduce wait times and double trauma capacity. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.
