CSX Railroad to test remote operations

(Tommie Lee/95.3 MNC)

CSX Railroad will begin testing remote operations of its bridge over the St. Joseph River in St. Joseph next week.

The test runs Monday through September 14, with a remote operator controlling the bridge from Evansville, hundreds of miles away.

A person will still be on-site at all times in case issues arise. The system uses six cameras and audio communication.

WSBT says a public comment period will be held before CSX decides whether to make the remote operation permanent.
