A Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputy is in stable condition after being shot Friday morning while responding to a report of a theft from a vehicle.

Authorities say the deputy struggled with the suspect, who allegedly stole the deputy’s patrol vehicle and led officers on a chase before crashing near the sheriff’s office.

The suspect was taken into custody and is receiving medical treatment before being booked into jail.
