A St. Joseph County judge has ruled a Mishawaka murder suspect is not competent to stand trial.

Court records show Narles Brown Sr. has been found incompetent in the case involving the February 2025 shooting that killed 22-year-old Asia Phillips and seriously wounded Brown’s son, Tyreese Brown.

The murder case is on hold and can only move forward if Brown is later determined to be competent to stand trial.
