Man killed in hit-and-run collision on S. Main Street in Elkhart

A man is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Elkhart, and police say the driver has been arrested.

The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the 2200 block of South Main Street.

Police say they arrived to find a man lying unresponsive along the roadway. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Investigators say a southbound truck hit the man and kept driving.

Officers later located the vehicle and arrested a 20-year-old man.

The man was taken to the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in bodily injury and causing death while operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher.
