Wa-Nee Community Schools will ask voters this November to approve a school safety referendum.
The district is one of a record 38 Indiana school systems placing tax questions on the November ballot after a new state law limited school referendum elections to once every two years.
School officials say Wa-Nee is the only district in Indiana seeking voter approval specifically for school safety funding.
Most other districts are asking to renew or establish operating fund levies for expenses such as salaries, benefits and classroom supplies.
Districts that don’t seek a referendum this year will have to wait until November 2028 for another opportunity.
