The City of South Bend’s Department of Public Works announces additional street paving for several high traffic streets in deteriorating condition.
These streets comprise an additional 19 lane miles of paving for the 2026 season in addition to the 40 lane miles already announced in March. Work is expected to be completed by the end of October. Residents can follow the progress of paving work at southbendin.gov/paving.
Streets selected for paving are determined by a surface condition assessment that rates streets on a scale of 0 to 100. The assessment involves capturing video footage and using specialized software to analyze pavement distresses. Streets with the lowest scores are prioritized for paving each year.
