A Mexican national has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for assaulting an immigration officer.
Federal prosecutors say 36-year-old Santos Duron Cisneros pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer.
The incident happened in February while an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer was transporting Cisneros and two other people.
Prosecutors say Cisneros became combative, assaulted another person in the vehicle and resisted when the officer intervened. He allegedly kicked at the officer, making contact with the officer’s hands, and also tried to headbutt the officer.
A federal judge in South Bend handed down the eight-month sentence.
