Motorcyclist critically injured in crash at Main St. & US 20 bypass in Elkhart

A 26-year-old motorcycle driver was critically injured in a crash involving a semi-truck at South Main Street and U.S. Highway 20.

The Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a report of the crash at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20. Police and emergency crews responded to the intersection.

According to investigators, a semi was traveling north on South Main Street and attempting to turn left onto the westbound U.S. 20 ramp when the southbound motorcycle collided with the truck.

Elkhart Fire Department medics treated the motorcycle driver at the scene before taking him to a hospital with serious bodily injuries. Police said he was in critical condition at last report.

The 41-year-old semi driver was not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with investigators.
