Elkhart police have identified the woman whose body was found on top of a stopped train car last week.

Authorities say 37-year-old Brittany Ritter of Holland, Ohio, had been reported missing to the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say the train traveled west from the east before stopping at the Norfolk Southern rail yard in the 2600 block of West Lusher Avenue in Elkhart.

A railroad employee discovered Ritter’s body shortly before noon September third.

Police say an autopsy report has not yet been completed.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has transferred the investigation to the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office.
