A 35-year-old Elkhart man is facing an attempted murder charge following a stabbing that seriously injured another man in July.

Police say officers were called to the 600 block of Maple Row around 4:30 p.m. July 23rd for a report of an injured person.

They found a 46-year-old man suffering from a severe head injury. He was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital.

Investigators later determined an assault and stabbing had occurred and identified Jeffery Estep as the suspect.

The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office filed an attempted murder charge, a Level One felony, in Elkhart Circuit Court.

Estep was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Elkhart police.
