Several law enforcement agencies recently conducted a targeted human trafficking operation in Northern Indiana.

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Tribal Police Department worked with Indiana State Police, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police Department and the FBI.

Investigators contacted several people during the operation and identified multiple individuals believed to be potential victims of human or sex trafficking. Those individuals were offered services and resources based on their needs.

Authorities say trafficking investigations often cross jurisdictional lines, making cooperation between Tribal, local, state and federal agencies important in identifying victims and investigating suspected exploitation.

The National Human Trafficking Hotline reported 155 trafficking cases involving 199 victims in Indiana in 2025. Michigan reported 362 cases involving 576 victims. Those figures reflect only cases reported to or identified by the hotline.
